Board of Directors News

On June 24 the Racine Dragon Boat Club Board of Directors met to discuss club priorities before the Midwest Dragon Boat Festival on July 12, 2008. Our club bought a tent which will be at the Racine festival where we can answer quesitons for new members, hand out information on the club, and sell some festival t-shirts. We are looking for volunteers to help us cover the booth during the festival. Please contact Jennifer on our "contact us" page if you can help us out! We are also planning a club paddle and social at the end of July - more to come on this at a later date.

New Member News

Once the Midwest Dragon Boat Festival in Racine is over after the weekend of July 12, we will start planning our weekly schedules for team and member practices. We are looking at a 6:30PM time on Thursdays for new members, recreational paddlers, and those who have not decided on the right team for them. We want to make sure everyone will have a chance to paddle and will poll our members for the best days and times which also work with our steersman's schedules.

Steersman News

We are looking for a "Steersman Manager" who will help coordinate the availability of our steersmen with the needs of our members. This person would also schedule new steersmen training sessions with our veteran steersman so we can increase the number of experienced steersmen available. All of our steersmen get a complimentary club membership and will have opportunities to steer in local and national festivals. If you are interested in being our "Steersman Manager" or would like to learn how to steer a dragon boat, please contact us.

Race Management Training

We have an opportunity to learn how to manage a festival race and are looking for four people who would be willing to shadow the Racine Festival Management Team on July 12 during the festival. If this is something you or someone you know would be interested in, please contact us.
