:: History of the Racine Dragon Boat Club

In the fall of 2004, various people who had participated in the Great Midwest Dragon Boat Festival decided that they were hooked on the sport and did not want to wait until the next festival to continue paddling. The Rotary Club of Racine West, the organizer of the Great Midwest Dragon Boat Festival, had purchased a dragon boat, with the idea of donating the dragon boat to the All-Saints cancer survivors for their use after the festival.
Given the enthusiasm for this great paddling sport, the Rotary Club, All-Saints and the newly formed Racine Dragon Boat Club decided that a different partnership made sense. Rotary transferred the boat to the Racine Dragon Boat Club. In return, the Rotary Club would have use of the boat for all future Great Midwest Dragon Boat Festivals, and All-Saints would receive guaranteed times and fees for the use of the boat. The real beneficiaries are the people of this area, who will now be able to learn and practice a great paddling sport.
